YouTube.
A 90 second music-video about how humans can be more sustainable,
protecting the environment while being economically prosperous
and socially just. Great public service announcement (PSA) about
what sustainability is. Movie highlights some things individuals
can do to make a difference for a more sustainable, healthy,
and safe world. Follow-up to the Al Gore movie "An Inconvenient
Truth."
Assistance
to the Town of Dauphin Island (AL - USA) in its Strategic Planning
Process toward Sustainability.
Five E's
is working with
the Town
of Dauphin
Island, Alabama to assit the community in a
public consultation process toward the development of a strategic
plan to guide
the municipality in creating a more hazard resistant community
able to balance economic
development
with environmental sustainability. Partners with Five E's
in this project include the University of Washington and the
Bellwether Group of Mobile, AL.
Check
out the "Sustainability Manifesto" written by Dr.
Warren Flint of Five E's Unlimited.
Scientists
and policy-makers have begun to recognize it would eventually
be suicidal to allow a further undermining of the sustainability
of ecological life support systems, locally and globally.
At the same time, they acknowledge that development is required
to eliminate destitution, ensure material security, and allow
individuals and communities more choices and more power to
exert greater control over the factors affecting their lives – thus
the call for “sustainable development.” Dr. Flint's
production of the "Sustainability
Manifesto" is the integration of what many
diverse groups see as means to achieving sustainability.
You can review parts of the Sustainability Manifesto by going
to its web page. This also provides the basis for Sustainability
Awareness
Retreats & Workshops that Five E's does for
organizations and businesses.
"A Better
Future" was initiated a couple of years ago to provide a portal
for individuals to obtain additional awareness and understanding
for the topic of sustainable development. At the heart
of this public communications campaign to build
awareness and understanding for sustainability at the grassroots
level is the design and publication of
an attention-getting public service announcement (PSA) music-video.

Review
the Video Clips of Warren Flint Discussing Sustainability
Dr. Warren Flint was recently interview, along
with a number of other experts, on views related to different
aspects of sustainable development. Video clips of these interviews
are able to be seen at the Arnold
Creek Production web site.
Easy-to-Read book that
explains the concept Sustainability. -"I'm
using your textbook for my class this semester. The number
of students in the class went through the roof and I'm short
books. Is there any quick way to acquire 20-30 copies? The
students love your book by the way." (Dr. John

Five
E's Contributes to a Team Assisting the Community of Guemes
Island, WA (USA).
Dr. Warren Flint recently
served as a member of a Sustainable Design Assessment Team (SDAT)
for the American Institute of Architects,
Communities By Design program, which facilitated a week-long
charrette process designed to help the Guemes
Island community
assess their
choices and issues and define a path toward formulating strategies
and solutions in their commitment to planning for a sustainable
future. Team research and public consultation focused upon five
community objectives that included: preserve the island’s
rural character; conserve water and protect the quality of the
island’s sole source aquifer; resolve transportation disagreements;
protect wildlife and shoreline habitat; and increase island energy
independence. For more information see the "Projects" section of
this web site.

Role in the Next 25 Years." 16 November 2005;

Water resources
management is one of the most important challenges the U.S.
faces. The demand for good water resources is continuing to
increase, with shortfalls potentially leading to social injustices,
civil
unrest, and human conflict. Sustainable development is the
key to water resource quantity and quality, as well as national
security, economic health, and societal well-being. Carrying
out development activities that are sustainable requires simultaneous,
multi-dimensional thinking about the consequences of present
actions on future public and environmental health through examination
of the connections among environmental, economic, and social
concerns when we make choices for action. Life Cycle Analysis
(LCA) is an investigation which aims to quantify the level
of resource used, as well as the wastes produced at every stage
of a product’s life or process, identifying both direct
and indirect environmental impact potentials. Currently, impacts
to water resources are generically indicated by quantity of
water used without regard to the distinction of use versus
consumption, quality of water, location, and nature of the
source, etc. To understand how to improve this important impact
category it is vital to understand the balance between the
indicators which most accurately describe sustainability of
water resources and the availability of data for those indicators
across our vast economic supply chain.

Sustainable
Water Resources Roundtable Indicator Report
Dr. Warren
Flint of Five E's Unlimited has served as a member of the
Sustainable
Water Resources Roundtable (SWRR) for the last three years,
assisting in its development of criteria and indicators that
would allow the measure of water resource sustainability in
the U.S. SWRR is
one of four Natural Resource Roundtables with Federal, State,
corporate and NGO participation. The SWRR is also a subgroup
of the Advisory Committee on Water Information (ACWI) that
advises Federal Agencies working on water. The
2005 Preliminary Report of SWRR has just been published and
can be found at the Sustainable
Water Resources Roundtable web site. The
SWRR task force has worked to synthesize and integrate data
relative to the sustainability of surface and groundwater resources,
focusing primarily on the development indicators
that could be used to measure the sustainability of water resources.
From this partnership work, a journal article was recently
published by Dr. Flint entitled “The
Sustainable Development of Water Resources” (Water
Resources Update, February 2004).
